Fall Family Session What to Wear Guides - 2024

As a photographer specializing in Family Fall photo sessions in the Chicago area for over 20 years, outfit coordination is one of my favorite parts of the job. The weather in October here can be quite unpredictable, ranging from 40 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. That's why I always recommend dressing in layers. It's essential for everyone to feel comfortable during the shoot, so having shirts underneath sweaters is a smart move in case it turns out warmer than expected.

When it comes to outfits, I emphasize coordination over matching. This means avoiding having one person in a pattern while others wear solids, unless you want them to stand out intentionally. One fun idea is to dress the girls in matching patterned dresses and the guys in coordinating solid colors.

Comfort is paramount, especially since we might be sitting on the ground or walking around. That's why I suggest keeping it casual. Super high heels might not be the best choice for activities like walking and swinging kids!

To make it easier for families, I provide options with Amazon purchase links for the outfits I recommend. It's all about making the process easy and enjoyable, ensuring everyone looks great and feels comfortable during their family photo session.
